Hi.
I'm Pat. I'm a first year Masters student at Harvard University, studying Data Science. This site provides more details about the projects I've built that won awards during hackathons.

Grand Prize
NBCUniversal Social Hack - ProjectNBC
MobileWe created a mobile app for Per Scholas, a non-profit organization that provides tuition-free technology training to individuals across the nation. Per Scholas has a large alumni network, yet finds it difficult to keep in touch with its graduates to track their progress. Our app solves this problem by creating a social media tool with a gamification system to provide incentives for alums to frequently visit the app. Furthermore, we processed their dataset and provided data visualizations of their users through graphs and charts.

Third Place of NetApp Prize
DeveloperWeekNY, NetApp Track - EcoBites
MobileWe created a mobile app that allows consumers to report on restaurant's environmental practices, ultimately to encourage restaurants to adopt more eco-friendly practices. Comments about a restaurant are streamed live on the restaurant page. Restaurants are listed with all the associated eco-friendliness information on them.
Team Members: Pat, Gladys, Ken, Hanjin, Luis
Technologies Used: React Native, Firebase, NetApp
Prize: $1000
Second Prize (Third Place)
MLBAM Hackathon, VR Track - ProjectMLB
Virtual RealityWe created a VR experience that allows baseball fans to relive historical baseball moments in interesting new perspectives. Fans can choose view the experience in first person or in third person and see 3D models of their favorite players move around the field the same way as they did years ago. Sound clips and animations from those moments are synchronized and played at appropriate times to increase immersion.
Team Members: Pat, Justin, Paki, David
Technologies Used: Unity
Prize: $1000
Second Place
ExpeditionHacks - FutureLens
3D Game & AR Web appWe created an interactive, role playing game, where the user acts as a caretaker for an artificial tree farm. The player must "plant trees" in spawn points across Manhattan by being physically there. The trees then spawn in the 3D game environment of that user. The trees themselves earn the player gold coins. However, there will be intruders looking to cut down the trees and it is the player’s job to hunt them down. The educational aspect of this lies in the game’s alternate timeline. Much like the Butterfly Effect, the player can access the world in which they did not intervene and plant the trees. Global temperatures would have risen, causing melting polar ice caps to have ravaged the world. This not only raises awareness of the threats to Earth, but also demonstrates the difficulty and care needed to raise trees, as well as providing tools to understand the severity of Earth’s conditions.

First Place
HackCUNY - ClubHub
WebWe created an online platform designed specifically for club organizers and students. Each club has its own page where they can do things such as create events and manage their members. Additionally, the users can easily integrate and synchronize their calendars by pasting their schedules. The platform parses the schedule, fills up the calendar, and allows for synchronization with other students' schedules to make joining clubs a seamless process.

Prize: Oculus Rift
Third Place
HackNY - SoundScapeVR/SoundRoom
Virtual Reality & Leap MotionWe built SoundScapeVR, an immersive experience that builds an entire virtual, unique and interactive world using a user picked song as a reference. After the world is built, various elements in the world come alive and react to the song's beat, tempo, frequency, volume and other aspects of the music as it plays. The user can move their hands around freely, interact with randomly generated objects, and even create trailing light in a way rave enthusiasts have always dreamed of being able to do.
As part of the prize for winning, we had the opportunity to present our project at NY Tech Meetup to a crowd of over 500. While polishing the project for this presentation, we renamed it to SoundRoom.

Prize: $333 & NY Tech Meetup Invitation to Demo
Most Creative Hack (Joint Second Place)
HackCooper - ThoughtSpace
Virtual Reality & Leap MotionWe created a VR social experience where the user can physically interact with other people's thoughts and voice messages in the VR world. The user is surrounded by floating orbs that each represent a message, a thought, a human being. By reaching out with their hands and delicately activating the orb, the user is able to listen to a voice message left by someone else who was there before. Users can also leave voice messages of their own to populate the world to be stored for others to experience.

One of the 3 Winners of Dental Track
HackNYU - Oral ImageNostics
iOSWe created a machine learning system to analyze images of teeth and generate a score from 0-5 based on the intensity of plaque in the image. We built the machine learning (ML) system from scratch, using images that the dental students in our team collected during the hackathon.
We were split across 2 teams of 5 each, with one team focusing on data processing and the other, which I was in, on the ML system and mobile app. The latter ended up clinching the prize.
